Kyle Field’s ink and watercolor drawings are ethereal journeys into the secret history of our subconscious, a place where our inner child goes goo goo at life’s simple magic. Fluid black ink lines flow from one idea to the next and create stories over muted watercolor tones that reverberate with wonderment.
If you take a ride with his work, you will be rewarded with his humorous and often quite poignant musings and autobiographical yearnings. Along the way, you will meet old wise men, gnomes, surfers, animals and other folksy forest peoples frolicking and talking to you all at once. It’s as if you are meeting these newfound friends on a hike over a magical mountain, camping and listening to their stories and riddles and flutes by the fire. Lest you write this work off as naive or hippy-dippy, to the contrary, it is able to pose new questions and propose hopes with the confidence and sarcasm of an old soul who knows the virtues of both the natural and material world.
This is Kyle Field’s first solo show in New York. He has previously shown his work in several group shows at Cinders Gallery, as well as at Junc Gallery in LA and Atelier Gallery in Paris, France. In addition to making drawings, he makes music as Little Wings with releases on K records, surfs, and builds driftwood shacks by the beach.
